Alaskan Adventure Part 2: The Drug Bust

After visiting my uncles cousin and grandma in Boise we head back out on the road for Seattle where my sister had made arrangements for us to stay with this guy she met online, seem strange? Yeah it kinda did to me too. Oh yeah, she has never met this guy in person at this point.

So on our way to Seattle things get a little hairy while passing through Oregon. My family has been pulled over many a time by the Oregon police and are therefore very cautious when driving through there. This time was no exception. I was cruising along at about 70mph on the freeway where the speed limit is 65mph till Evan says "po po" then I even slowed down to 65. Unfortunately its too late, the evil cop already has me in his sights. He does a turn to pull out on my side of the freeway from the dirt road he is on. I said “ah crap this isn’t gonna be good.” Fortunately he pulled right behind two big semi trucks going the same speed. Glade had to pee anyway so we decided it would be a good idea to take the next exit that we were just about reaching so he could go pee and I could hopefully avoid the cop. I couldn’t believe when I saw the officer pull off at the exit and follow me for quite some distance.

By this time I’m just waiting for him to put his lights on so I can go ahead and stop but for some strange reason he just follows. On this particular road I don’t even know the speed limit so I’m doing maybe 35 on this frontage road. Finally the officer puts his lights on and pulls me over. He says “my name is officer (such and such) I’m stopping you because I saw something hanging from your bumper.” F.Y.I It was the bumper its self I got rear-ended the first day of classes. He says could you take off your glasses and look up for me. it’s a bright day out and so I naturally squinted my eyes and he said “w/o squinting them just relax them.” then he said can you stick out your tongue. Then he said “do you have anything in your car other than luggage, that is do you have any illegal drugs on you?” I said “no” he said “do you mind if I search your car?…..that is if I call in a K-9 unit to search it.” I said “uh…no… I guess not” then he asked for my License and registration. After running my information my friends ask “do you have any priors?” “no” I told them. Then the officer comes back and says “could you step out of the car and come back here with me?” So I did just that. He says “alright I’m gonna need to pat you down do you have any weapons or sharp objects on you. I said “no, just my keys” and after patting me down he asked me to remove my glasses and look up again. This time the sun isn’t directly in my eyes and after his little test he says “Ok, now be honest with me. You have never taken marijuana in your entire life?”

What? Hold everything!!! where the hell is this guy drawing this conclusion that I use drugs? Even if I ever had he can’t bust me unless I am under the influence or in possession. Of course I told him the truth. “No, I have NEVER once in my ENTIRE life have I EVER smoked pot.” He said “well you’re eyes were twitching a bit and your tongue was green which are both consistent with using marijuana. Have you been eating something green?” I said “yeah the Mountain Dew AMP energy drink that was in my cup holder” and then he says “Tell me have your friends smoked pot?” I said “how should I know? Not to my knowledge they never have.” and right when hen goes to say you’re free to go he then repeats the question “and you don’t mind if I call in a K-9 unit to search the car?” like if he asked again I might say something different. I was thinking yeah it’s a good thing you asked twice because I may have changed my mind. I said “no” and he said “ok you’re free to go.”

What a power trip I still cant get over what an abuse of authority that was. I want an apology from the Oregon Highway patrol for unnecessary harassment. It was uncalled for and undeserved.

what will become of our beloved friends?
...
Will the cop come back and haul me off to jail just like my sister before me?
...
Will Evan save our fearless driver from getting pulled over again?
...
Will Glade ever find a restroom?

read part 3 to find out.
