Burt and I would like to announce that we adopted Titan Ferguson on October 9, 2010. He is a very handsome boxer mix about 4 months old. Conference weekend, Burt and I spent some time watching Breeds 101 on the Discovery Channel, and for fun began to search adoption listings on http://www.petfinder.com/ for the boxer breed. We came across a photo of Apollo in a Vernal Utah animal shelter and we immediately fell in love with him.
After discussing it we decided he would be the perfect addition to our family and would provide Baloo with a companion. Baloo is very needy and demands constant attention. We hoped that getting her a puppy would help ease some of that neediness.
Monday morning I emailed the shelter to find out the details on the adoption process. We were in luck! Apollo had not been placed in a home yet, and was considered healthy by the shelter. We immediately began the application process and were approved for adoption after two days of waiting for a status update.
Burt and I rose bright and early Saturday the 9th and set out on our 3 1/2 hour journey to Vernal to pick up our new baby with Baloo in tow. :) We were both bursting with excitement and could hardly sleep the night leading up to our departure.
A feeling of panic hit us when we walked in the doors of the shelter to have an employee ask, "You knew Apollo was on meds, right?" My thoughts..."uh, NO, I have been emailing you guys all week about him and nobody mentioned that he needed medication." Worried that he had some horrible disease that would carry with him for life, we were taken aback. The gal at the counter assured me it was only kennel cough and that he would need the meds for a week. I was very relieved. However, the dogs could not touch noses for fear of contaminating Baloo with the doggie cough.

When they final brought Apollo out to meet us, Burt was just beaming with excitement. He had never had a dog before and I knew right off that Apollo, newly dubbed Titan, would be his best friend. :) They are so cute together, and Titan follows Burt everywhere.
Although it has been sad having poor Titan coughing all the time, he has quickly recovered. He loves Baloo, although she doesn't like sharing her toys just yet, but he kisses her face so sweetly.
The cats are having a hard time adjusting but we are confident they will soon be over it.
